This is a short lecture that I gave on 'Poppies' (AQA Power and Conflict poetry) as part of a revision session. It includes a one minute clip about the history of poppies as a war symbol, biographical context linked to Jane Weir, brief annotations on each stanza, discussion of recurrent features and suggested comparisons. Although it started as a lecture, it could easily be adapted for an introductory lesson interspersed with a few more interactive activities.
