Macbeth and Sensory Theory – Macbeth’s Thirsty Ear

#152230

Description

How does being aware of how early moderns experienced the world alter how we read Shakespeare? This resource looks at Macbeth and the organ of the ear in particular, asking how we might interpret the play if we assign the ear agency in the same way as, for example, tongue. Also included: a resource that gives an overview of sensory theory; provides some questions how to practice sensory theory; gives some examples from other Shakespeare plays; provides some short critical excerpts from sensory criticism and examples from early modern documents on hearing.
